100 Common Indian English Mistakes: रोज़मर्रा की English में होने वाली आम गलतियाँ

Common Indian English Mistakes

Indian learners English बोलते समय अक्सर ऐसी mistakes करते हैं जो grammar से ज्यादा translation habit, pronunciation, sentence pattern या Hindi के influence की वजह से होती हैं।

उदाहरण के लिए:

“Please revert back to me.”

यह sentence India में बहुत common है, लेकिन natural English में आमतौर पर “Please get back to me.” या “Please reply to me.” कहना बेहतर होता है।

इसी तरह:

“I am having two brothers.”

की जगह natural English होगी:

“I have two brothers.”

इस lesson में हम ऐसी common Indian English mistakes को समझेंगे जिन्हें daily conversation, school, college, office और सामान्य बातचीत में आसानी से correct किया जा सकता है।

1. Indian English Mistakes क्यों होती हैं?

इन mistakes के पीछे कई practical reasons होते हैं:

  • Hindi से word-to-word translation करना
  • English के बजाय Hindi sentence structure को follow करना
  • ऐसे expressions सीखना जो India में बहुत common हैं लेकिन international English में less natural हैं
  • सही preposition न जानना
  • articles जैसे a, an, the का गलत use
  • pronunciation में spelling को देखकर बोलना
  • tense को जरूरत से ज्यादा complicated बनाना
  • कुछ fixed English expressions को गलत pattern में याद कर लेना

सबसे important बात यह है कि हर Indian usage “wrong English” नहीं है। Indian English की अपनी established varieties और usages भी हैं। लेकिन अगर आपका goal natural, widely understood conversational English बोलना है, तो कुछ expressions को standard/common international usage के अनुसार सीखना useful है।

2. Common Indian English Mistakes: सबसे पहले ये सीखें

2.1 “Myself Pradeep” ❌

Indian introductions में “Myself…” बहुत सुनने को मिलता है।

❌ Myself Pradeep.

Natural English:

✅ I’m Pradeep.

या

✅ My name is Pradeep.

या थोड़ा formal:

✅ Let me introduce myself. I’m Pradeep.

“myself” का use generally subject के रूप में नहीं किया जाता।

सही pattern

I’m + name.

Examples:

  • I’m Rahul.
  • I’m Neha.
  • I’m Amit.
  • I’m Priya.

3. “I am having…” और “I have…” में फर्क

यह Indian learners की बहुत common mistake है।

❌ I am having two brothers.

✅ I have two brothers.

❌ I am having a car.

✅ I have a car.

❌ I am having a doubt.

✅ I have a doubt.

यहाँ “have” possession या state बता रहा है, इसलिए simple present natural है।

लेकिन “having” कब सही है?

जब “have” किसी activity को दिखाता है:

✅ I’m having lunch.

मैं lunch कर रहा हूँ।

✅ We’re having a meeting.

हम meeting कर रहे हैं।

✅ She’s having a shower.

वह shower ले रही है।

इसलिए:

I have a car.
लेकिन
I’m having lunch.

दोनों सही हैं, लेकिन meaning अलग है।

4. “Do one thing” ❌

India में advice देते समय यह बहुत common है:

❌ Do one thing, call him.

Natural alternatives:

✅ Try this: call him.

✅ Why don’t you call him?

✅ Here’s what you can do: call him.

Casual conversation में:

“Do one thing” Indian English में widely understood है, लेकिन broader natural English में “Try this” या “Why don’t you…” ज्यादा natural लग सकता है।

Useful pattern

Why don’t you + verb?

Examples:

  • Why don’t you ask him?
  • Why don’t you wait here?
  • Why don’t you try again?
  • Why don’t you call her?

5. “Pass out from college” ❌

India में “I passed out from college” का मतलब अक्सर होता है कि किसी ने college complete किया।

लेकिन standard English में “pass out” का meaning context के अनुसार अलग हो सकता है, और education completion के लिए यह expression avoid करना safer है।

Use:

✅ I graduated from college in 2025.

मैंने 2025 में college से graduation की।

या:

✅ I finished college in 2025.

मैंने 2025 में college complete किया।

याद रखें

graduate from + institution

Examples:

  • I graduated from Delhi University.
  • She graduated from college last year.

6. “Revert back” ❌

यह Indian offices में बहुत common है।

❌ Please revert back to me.

Natural alternatives:

✅ Please get back to me.

✅ Please reply to me.

✅ Please let me know.

अगर आपका meaning है “मुझे जवाब देना”, तो “reply” या “get back to me” ज्यादा natural है।

Office examples

Please get back to me by tomorrow.

कृपया कल तक मुझे जवाब दें।

Please let me know if you have any questions.

अगर आपका कोई सवाल हो तो मुझे बताइए।

7. “Discuss about” ❌

“Discuss” के बाद normally “about” की जरूरत नहीं होती।

❌ We discussed about the problem.

✅ We discussed the problem.

❌ Let’s discuss about this issue.

✅ Let’s discuss this issue.

लेकिन “talk about” में about आता है:

✅ Let’s talk about this issue.

Simple rule

discuss + object

talk + about + object

Examples:

  • We discussed the plan.
  • We talked about the plan.

8. “Return back” ❌

“Return” में वापस जाने का idea पहले से मौजूद है।

❌ Please return back the book.

Better:

✅ Please return the book.

लेकिन “give it back” भी natural है:

✅ Please give the book back.

इसी तरह

❌ Repeat again.

✅ Repeat.

या

✅ Could you say that again?

क्योंकि “repeat” में already again का meaning है।

9. “Order for a pizza” ❌

अगर आप restaurant में food order कर रहे हैं:

❌ I want to order for a pizza.

Natural:

✅ I’d like to order a pizza.

या casual:

✅ Can I order a pizza?

Useful restaurant pattern

I’d like to order + food.

Examples:

  • I’d like to order a coffee.
  • I’d like to order a sandwich.
  • I’d like to order two pizzas.

10. “Give me” का polite use

“Give me a glass of water” grammatically possible है, लेकिन situation के अनुसार यह थोड़ा direct लग सकता है।

Casual:

Give me some water, please.

Polite:

Could you give me some water, please?

More natural:

Could I have some water, please?

Restaurant में:

Could I have a glass of water, please?

याद रखने योग्य pattern

Could I have + noun?

Examples:

  • Could I have the menu, please?
  • Could I have some tea, please?
  • Could I have your phone number, please?

11. “What is your good name?” ❌

India में यह बहुत common expression है।

❌ What is your good name?

Natural English:

✅ What’s your name?

Polite:

✅ May I know your name?

Formal situation में:

✅ Could I have your name, please?

“Good name” English में किसी व्यक्ति का नाम पूछने का standard expression नहीं है।

12. “Where are you staying?” और “Where do you live?”

इन दोनों का meaning अलग है।

Where do you live?

आप कहाँ रहते हैं?

यह permanent/general residence पूछने के लिए है।

Where are you staying?

आप अभी कहाँ ठहरे हुए हैं?

यह temporary location के लिए है।

Example

अगर कोई Jaipur घूमने आया है:

A: Where are you staying?

B: I’m staying at a hotel near the railway station.

लेकिन किसी का permanent address पूछना हो:

A: Where do you live?

B: I live in Raipur.

13. “I am coming” और “I am going”

Hindi influence के कारण learners कभी-कभी direction को लेकर confuse होते हैं।

अगर आप listener की location की तरफ जा रहे हैं:

A: Where are you?

B: I’m coming.

मैं आ रहा हूँ।

अगर आप listener की location से दूर जा रहे हैं:

I’m going home.

मैं घर जा रहा हूँ।

Important

“Come” और “go” speaker/listener के point of view पर depend करते हैं।

14. “He is in home” ❌

❌ He is in home.

✅ He is at home.

लेकिन:

✅ He is in the house.

“at home” एक fixed expression है।

Examples:

  • I’m at home.
  • She is at home.
  • Are you at home?
  • He stayed at home all day.

15. “In the morning” लेकिन “at night”

Prepositions में यह confusion common है।

Correct:

  • in the morning
  • in the afternoon
  • in the evening
  • at night

Examples:

I exercise in the morning.

मैं सुबह exercise करता हूँ।

I usually study at night.

मैं usually रात में पढ़ता हूँ।

16. “On Sunday” लेकिन “in July”

Time prepositions को ऐसे याद करें:

Prepositionसामान्य useExample
atexact time / nightat 5 p.m., at night
onday/dateon Monday, on 15 August
inmonth/year/long periodin July, in 2026

Examples:

  • I’ll call you at 6.
  • We’ll meet on Sunday.
  • She was born in 2002.

17. “Since two years” ❌

Duration बताने के लिए “for” use होता है।

❌ I have lived here since two years.

✅ I have lived here for two years.

लेकिन starting point के साथ “since” आता है:

✅ I have lived here since 2024.

आसान rule

for + duration

since + starting point

Examples:

  • for three days
  • for two years
  • since Monday
  • since 2024

18. “From two years” ❌

❌ I am working here from two years.

Natural:

✅ I have been working here for two years.

अगर अभी भी काम कर रहे हैं, तो present perfect continuous useful है।

Pattern

have/has been + verb-ing + for/since

Examples:

  • I have been studying English for three years.
  • She has been working here since 2024.
  • We have been waiting for an hour.

19. “He don’t” ❌

Third-person singular के साथ “doesn’t” use होता है।

❌ He don’t know.

✅ He doesn’t know.

❌ She don’t like tea.

✅ She doesn’t like tea.

लेकिन:

✅ I don’t know.

✅ They don’t know.

याद रखें

I/You/We/They → don’t

He/She/It → doesn’t

20. “He didn’t went” ❌

“Did” के बाद verb का base form आता है।

❌ He didn’t went there.

✅ He didn’t go there.

❌ Did you went there?

✅ Did you go there?

❌ She didn’t came.

✅ She didn’t come.

Golden rule

did + V1

Examples:

  • Did you see him?
  • Did she call you?
  • I didn’t understand.
  • We didn’t go there.

21. “I didn’t knew” ❌

यह भी उसी rule का example है।

❌ I didn’t knew.

✅ I didn’t know.

क्योंकि “didn’t” के बाद base verb आता है।

22. “Can able to” ❌

❌ I can able to do it.

Correct:

✅ I can do it.

या:

✅ I am able to do it.

“can” और “be able to” दोनों ability दिखाते हैं, इसलिए normally दोनों को साथ नहीं रखते।

23. “More better” ❌

❌ This is more better.

✅ This is better.

“better” already comparative form है।

इसी तरह:

❌ more easier

✅ easier

❌ more faster

✅ faster

24. “One of my friend” ❌

“One of” के बाद plural noun आता है।

❌ He is one of my friend.

✅ He is one of my friends.

❌ She is one of my best friend.

✅ She is one of my best friends.

Pattern

one of + plural noun

Examples:

  • one of my friends
  • one of the students
  • one of the best books
  • one of the biggest cities

25. “Many informations” ❌

“Information” generally uncountable noun है।

❌ I need some informations.

✅ I need some information.

❌ He gave me many informations.

✅ He gave me a lot of information.

अगर अलग-अलग pieces की बात हो:

✅ He gave me several pieces of information.

26. “An advice” ❌

“Advice” भी generally uncountable है।

❌ He gave me an advice.

✅ He gave me some advice.

या:

✅ He gave me a piece of advice.

याद रखें

advice = noun

advise = verb

Examples:

Can you give me some advice?

क्या आप मुझे कुछ सलाह दे सकते हैं?

I advise you to wait.

मैं आपको wait करने की सलाह देता हूँ।

27. “My hairs are black” ❌

अगर पूरे सिर के बालों की बात हो:

✅ My hair is black.

लेकिन individual strands की बात में “hairs” possible है।

Daily conversation में:

My hair is getting long.

मेरे बाल लंबे हो रहे हैं।

28. “Sceneries” ❌

“Scenery” generally uncountable noun है।

❌ The sceneries are beautiful.

Natural:

✅ The scenery is beautiful.

या:

✅ The views are beautiful.

Travel conversation में “views” बहुत natural alternative है।

29. “Equipments” ❌

“Equipment” generally uncountable है।

❌ We need new equipments.

✅ We need new equipment.

Specific items बताने हों:

✅ We need some new pieces of equipment.

30. “People is” ❌

“People” plural है।

❌ People is waiting outside.

✅ People are waiting outside.

लेकिन “person” singular है:

One person is waiting.

Two people are waiting.

31. “News are” ❌

“News” दिखने में plural लगता है लेकिन grammar में generally singular माना जाता है।

❌ The news are good.

✅ The news is good.

Example:

The news is surprising.

यह खबर surprising है।

32. “Discuss about”, “mention about”, “order for” जैसे patterns

कुछ verbs के साथ unnecessary preposition जोड़ना common mistake है।

❌ discuss about the matter
✅ discuss the matter

❌ mention about the problem
✅ mention the problem

❌ order for food
✅ order food

❌ request for him to come
✅ request him to come

लेकिन हर verb के साथ same rule नहीं होता। इसलिए preposition को सिर्फ Hindi translation देखकर add नहीं करना चाहिए।

33. “Please explain me” ❌

“Explain” के साथ person के लिए “to” लग सकता है।

❌ Please explain me this.

Natural:

✅ Please explain this to me.

या:

✅ Could you explain this to me?

लेकिन “tell” अलग है

✅ Tell me the answer.

❌ Tell the answer to me.

दूसरा grammatically possible हो सकता है, लेकिन normal conversation में पहला ज्यादा natural है।

34. “Tell to him” ❌

❌ Tell to him.

✅ Tell him.

Example:

Tell him to wait.

उसे wait करने को कहो।

Tell her the truth.

उसे सच बताओ।

Pattern

tell + person + information

tell me
tell him
tell her
tell them

35. “Say me” ❌

❌ Say me your name.

Natural:

✅ Tell me your name.

“say” और “tell” का pattern अलग होता है।

Say

say + something

She said hello.

Tell

tell + someone + something

She told me the truth.

36. “I am understanding” ❌

कुछ verbs continuous form में normally use नहीं होते।

❌ I am understanding.

Natural:

✅ I understand.

❌ I am knowing him.

✅ I know him.

❌ I am liking this.

Usually:

✅ I like this.

हालाँकि modern conversational English में कुछ stative verbs को informal emphasis के लिए continuous form में सुन सकते हैं, लेकिन beginner learners के लिए standard pattern सीखना बेहतर है।

37. “I am forgetting” का सही context

“I’m forgetting” हर situation में गलत नहीं है।

For example:

I’m forgetting his name.

यह conversational context में possible है, खासकर जब आप उस moment में याद करने की कोशिश कर रहे हों।

लेकिन:

❌ I am forgetting the answer every day.

अगर habitual meaning है, तो:

✅ I forget the answer every time.

इसलिए सिर्फ verb की list याद करने के बजाय meaning और context समझना जरूरी है।

38. “Open the light” और “Close the light” ❌

India में ये phrases common हैं।

❌ Open the light.

❌ Close the light.

Natural:

✅ Turn on the light.

लाइट चालू करो।

✅ Turn off the light.

लाइट बंद करो।

इसी तरह:

❌ Open the fan.

✅ Turn on the fan.

❌ Close the fan.

✅ Turn off the fan.

39. “Put the fan” ❌

अगर fan चलाना है:

❌ Put the fan.

✅ Turn on the fan.

अगर speed बदलनी है:

✅ Turn the fan up.

या:

✅ Increase the fan speed.

40. “Switch off the mobile” और “turn off the phone”

“Switch off” और “turn off” दोनों कई contexts में natural हैं।

Examples:

  • Turn off the TV.
  • Switch off the light.
  • Turn off your phone.
  • Switch off the computer.

Indian English में “switch off” बहुत common है और यह अपने आप में गलत नहीं है।

41. “I have a doubt” और “I have a question”

Indian classrooms में:

“I have a doubt.”

बहुत common है।

Broader conversational English में:

“I have a question.”

या:

“Can I ask you something?”

ज्यादा natural हो सकता है, खासकर जब आपका मतलब किसी concept पर question पूछना हो।

लेकिन “doubt” का दूसरा meaning भी होता है:

I doubt his story.

मुझे उसकी story पर संदेह है।

इसलिए “doubt” और “question” को हर context में interchangeable न समझें।

42. “What is the time?” और “What time is it?”

दोनों समझे जा सकते हैं, लेकिन everyday conversational English में:

✅ What time is it?

बहुत natural है।

Polite:

Excuse me, what time is it?

43. “I am going to market” ❌

Singular countable noun से पहले article की जरूरत पड़ सकती है।

❌ I am going to market.

Common natural form:

✅ I’m going to the market.

लेकिन कुछ expressions में article नहीं लगता:

I’m going home.

I’m at home.

I go to school.

यहाँ “school” का use institution/activity के sense में हो सकता है।

44. A, An और The की basic mistakes

A

Consonant sound से पहले:

a book
a car
a university

ध्यान दें: “university” की शुरुआत vowel letter से है, लेकिन sound consonant /y/ से शुरू होती है, इसलिए “a university”।

An

Vowel sound से पहले:

an apple
an hour
an umbrella

“hour” में h sound नहीं सुनाई देती, इसलिए:

an hour

The

जब कोई specific चीज़ हो:

I saw a dog.

मैंने एक dog देखा।

The dog was very friendly.

वह dog बहुत friendly था।

45. “An university” ❌

❌ an university

✅ a university

क्योंकि article sound के आधार पर decide होता है, केवल spelling के आधार पर नहीं।

इसी तरह:

an honest person

क्योंकि “honest” में h silent है।

46. “He is good in English” ❌

Natural:

✅ He is good at English.

लेकिन:

He is good in English.

कुछ contexts में अलग अर्थ या regional usage मिल सकता है, पर skill के लिए beginner learners को यह pattern याद रखना चाहिए:

good at + skill/activity

Examples:

  • She is good at English.
  • He is good at mathematics.
  • I’m good at drawing.
  • She’s good at cooking.

47. “Married with” ❌

❌ She is married with Rahul.

Correct:

✅ She is married to Rahul.

लेकिन children बताने हों:

✅ She is married and has two children.

48. “Different than” या “different from”?

Standard formal English में:

✅ different from

Example:

This book is different from that one.

यह book उस book से अलग है।

“different than” कुछ varieties of English में मिलता है, लेकिन Indian learners के लिए “different from” एक safe standard pattern है।

49. “Prefer tea than coffee” ❌

Correct:

✅ I prefer tea to coffee.

Pattern:

prefer A to B

Examples:

  • I prefer tea to coffee.
  • She prefers walking to driving.
  • I prefer online classes to offline classes.

50. “Discuss about” की तरह “request for” को भी समझें

Verb patterns सीखना बहुत useful है।

Request

Formal:

We requested him to wait.

हमने उससे wait करने का अनुरोध किया।

Noun form:

We made a request.

हमने एक request की।

इसलिए हर बार Hindi के “के लिए” को English में “for” नहीं बनाना चाहिए।

51. “Kindly” का overuse

Indian formal emails में:

“Kindly do the needful.”

“Kindly revert back.”

जैसे phrases बहुत common हैं।

इनकी जगह modern, clear English में:

Please let me know what I should do.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

Please send me the details.

Please get back to me.

जैसी direct sentences ज्यादा clear होती हैं।

“Kindly” गलत word नहीं है। समस्या तब होती है जब इसे हर request में automatically use किया जाए।

52. “Do the needful” का meaning

“Do the needful” Indian business English में लंबे समय से इस्तेमाल होता रहा है।

लेकिन international reader के लिए इसका meaning हमेशा immediately clear नहीं होता।

इसके बजाय exact action बताना बेहतर है:

❌ Please do the needful.

Better:

✅ Please send me the documents.

या:

✅ Please complete the form and send it to me.

Clear English अक्सर short English होती है।

53. “Prepone” का क्या करें?

“Prepone” Indian English में established usage है और India में widely understood है।

Example:

Can we prepone the meeting?

Indian context में यह समझा जाएगा।

लेकिन wider international audience के साथ:

Can we move the meeting to an earlier time?

या:

Can we bring the meeting forward?

जैसे expressions useful हो सकते हैं।

इसलिए हर Indian English word को “wrong” कहना सही approach नहीं है। Context और audience important हैं।

54. “Cousin brother / cousin sister”

India में:

cousin brother
cousin sister

बहुत common हैं।

Standard English में:

cousin

कहना पर्याप्त है।

Example:

❌ He is my cousin brother.

✅ He is my cousin.

अगर gender बताना जरूरी हो:

He is my cousin.

She is my cousin.

आमतौर पर context से gender clear हो जाता है।

55. “Uncle” और “Aunty”

India में बड़े लोगों को “uncle” और “aunty” कहना social usage का हिस्सा है।

लेकिन English में ये words normally actual family relationship भी indicate कर सकते हैं।

Formal situation में किसी unknown adult को directly “Uncle” या “Aunty” कहने के बजाय:

Excuse me.

Sir.

Ma’am.

या simply:

Excuse me, could you help me?

जैसा context-appropriate expression use किया जा सकता है।

56. “Passed away” और “expired”

Indian English में “expired” का use किसी व्यक्ति की death के लिए सुनने को मिलता है।

Formal and sensitive English में:

He passed away.

She passed away last year.

जैसे expressions ज्यादा natural और respectful हैं।

57. “I am out of station” ❌

Indian English में:

“I’m out of station.”

का meaning समझा जाता है।

लेकिन wider English में:

✅ I’m out of town.

मैं शहर से बाहर हूँ।

या context के अनुसार:

✅ I’m away this week.

मैं इस week बाहर हूँ।

58. “Today morning” ❌

Natural English:

✅ this morning

❌ yesterday night

Better:

✅ last night

❌ tomorrow morning?

✅ tomorrow morning

“tomorrow morning” सही है क्योंकि “tomorrow” के साथ “morning” naturally combine होता है।

Useful expressions:

this morning
this afternoon
this evening
last night
tomorrow morning

59. “Yesterday night” की जगह “last night”

❌ I called him yesterday night.

✅ I called him last night.

❌ We went there yesterday night.

✅ We went there last night.

यह एक छोटा change है लेकिन spoken English को काफी natural बनाता है।

60. “I will tell you once I will reach” ❌

Time clause के बाद future meaning होने पर भी अक्सर present simple use होता है।

❌ I’ll call you when I will reach home.

Natural:

✅ I’ll call you when I reach home.

इसी तरह:

❌ I’ll tell you when he will come.

✅ I’ll tell you when he comes.

Pattern

when/after/before + present simple

Examples:

I’ll call you when I get home.

We’ll start when everyone arrives.

I’ll talk to him after he comes back.

61. “If it will rain” ❌

First conditional में:

❌ If it will rain, we will stay home.

Standard pattern:

✅ If it rains, we’ll stay home.

Pattern:

If + present simple, will + V1

Examples:

  • If I have time, I’ll call you.
  • If she comes, we’ll talk to her.
  • If it rains, we’ll stay home.

62. “I am not having money” ❌

Possession के लिए:

❌ I am not having money.

Natural:

✅ I don’t have any money.

या:

✅ I don’t have enough money.

Difference

I don’t have any money.

मेरे पास बिल्कुल पैसे नहीं हैं।

I don’t have enough money.

मेरे पास पर्याप्त पैसे नहीं हैं।

63. “I am having a problem” — यहाँ सही हो सकता है

यहाँ context important है।

“I’m having a problem with my computer.”

यह natural है क्योंकि यहाँ “having” एक ongoing situation/problem को describe कर रहा है।

इसलिए “I am having” को हमेशा गलत समझना भी mistake है।

English सीखते समय pattern + meaning दोनों सीखें।

64. “I am doing a mistake” ❌

Natural:

✅ I’m making a mistake.

English में “mistake” के साथ सामान्य collocation:

make a mistake

Examples:

  • I made a mistake.
  • Everyone makes mistakes.
  • Don’t worry if you make a mistake.

इसी तरह:

make a decision
make a plan
make a choice

लेकिन:

do homework
do work
do exercise

यह collocation learning का अच्छा example है।

65. “Do a decision” ❌

❌ I need to do a decision.

✅ I need to make a decision.

❌ She did a mistake.

✅ She made a mistake.

English में कई words fixed combinations में आते हैं। इन्हें collocations कहा जाता है।

66. Useful Collocations जो आपको याद रखने चाहिए

Make

  • make a mistake
  • make a decision
  • make a plan
  • make a choice
  • make money
  • make a promise

Do

  • do homework
  • do the work
  • do exercise
  • do your best
  • do business

Take

  • take a break
  • take a seat
  • take a shower
  • take a decision — यह कुछ varieties में मिलता है, लेकिन “make a decision” international learners के लिए standard common choice है।
  • take a photo

Have

  • have breakfast
  • have lunch
  • have dinner
  • have a meeting
  • have a problem
  • have a conversation

67. “Take a seat” और “Sit down”

दोनों सही हैं लेकिन tone अलग हो सकती है।

Please take a seat.

कृपया बैठिए।

Sit down.

बैठो/बैठ जाइए।

“Sit down” context के अनुसार direct लग सकता है। Polite situation में:

Please have a seat.

या:

Please take a seat.

बहुत useful हैं।

68. “Give an exam” बनाम “Take an exam”

India में “give an exam” बहुत common है।

Broader English में exam attempt करने के लिए:

I’m taking an exam tomorrow.

मैं कल exam दूँगा।

I have an exam tomorrow.

मेरी कल परीक्षा है।

Indian context में “give an exam” समझा जाएगा, लेकिन international English के लिए “take an exam” सीखना useful है।

69. “Give an interview” बनाम “have an interview”

India में:

I have to give an interview tomorrow.

common है।

Natural alternatives:

I have an interview tomorrow.

I have to attend an interview tomorrow.

I have to go for an interview tomorrow.

यहाँ exact meaning के अनुसार expression choose करें।

70. “I am sitting in the exam” ❌

Indian learners ऐसा बोल सकते हैं:

❌ I am sitting in the exam.

Natural:

✅ I’m taking an exam.

या:

✅ I’m taking my exam today.

लेकिन “sit an exam” British English में मिलता है:

I’m sitting an exam tomorrow.

यह भी valid English है। इसलिए English varieties के difference को समझना जरूरी है।

71. “I am having headache” ❌

Countable singular noun के साथ article चाहिए:

❌ I have headache.

Natural:

✅ I have a headache.

लेकिन:

I have a headache.

एक specific symptom है।

इसी तरह:

  • I have a fever.
  • I have a cold.
  • I have a cough.

72. “He has got fever” और articles

Indian English में:

He has got fever.

सुनने को मिल सकता है।

Standard conversational form:

He has a fever.

लेकिन British English में “has got” कई contexts में natural है:

He’s got a fever.

इसलिए article पर ध्यान देना ज्यादा important है।

73. “I am agree” ❌

❌ I am agree.

✅ I agree.

“agree” verb है, adjective नहीं।

Similarly:

❌ I am disagree.

✅ I disagree.

Examples:

I agree with you.

मैं आपसे सहमत हूँ।

I completely agree.

मैं पूरी तरह सहमत हूँ।

I’m not sure I agree.

मुझे नहीं लगता कि मैं इससे सहमत हूँ।

74. “I am having no idea” ❌

Better:

✅ I have no idea.

या casual:

✅ I have no idea what happened.

इसका meaning है:

मुझे बिल्कुल पता नहीं कि क्या हुआ।

75. “I am feeling” का सही use

“I’m feeling…” बिल्कुल सही हो सकता है जब आप current feeling/state describe कर रहे हों।

Examples:

I’m feeling tired.

मैं थका हुआ महसूस कर रहा हूँ।

I’m feeling better now.

अब मैं बेहतर महसूस कर रहा हूँ।

I’m feeling nervous.

मैं nervous महसूस कर रहा हूँ।

लेकिन:

❌ I’m feeling this movie is boring.

Better:

✅ I feel this movie is boring.

या natural:

✅ I think this movie is boring.

76. “I think so” और “I think it is”

जब opinion uncertain हो:

I think so.

मुझे ऐसा लगता है।

Example:

A: Is he coming?

B: I think so.

लेकिन:

I think he is coming.

मुझे लगता है कि वह आ रहा है।

दोनों useful हैं।

77. Direct translation से बचें

Hindi:

“मुझे समझ नहीं आ रहा है।”

एक learner बोल सकता है:

❌ I am not getting what is happening.

यह कुछ contexts में conversationally possible है, लेकिन safer standard form:

✅ I don’t understand what is happening.

या:

✅ I don’t understand.

इसी तरह:

“मुझे नींद आ रही है।”

❌ Sleep is coming to me.

Natural:

✅ I’m feeling sleepy.

या:

✅ I’m getting sleepy.

78. Hindi से English बनाते समय पहले “meaning” सोचें

Word-to-word translation की जगह पहले यह सोचें:

“मैं क्या कहना चाहता हूँ?”

फिर English pattern चुनें।

उदाहरण:

“मेरे पास समय नहीं है।”

Word-by-word translation:

❌ Time is not with me.

Natural English:

✅ I don’t have time.

“मुझे भूख लगी है।”

❌ Hunger is happening to me.

Natural:

✅ I’m hungry.

“मुझे जल्दी है।”

❌ I have hurry.

Natural:

✅ I’m in a hurry.

यह habit आपकी spoken English को तेजी से improve कर सकती है।

79. Common Hindi-to-English Translation Mistakes

Hindi thoughtAvoidNatural English
मेरे पास car हैI am having a carI have a car
मुझे भूख लगी हैHunger is comingI’m hungry
मुझे जल्दी हैI have hurryI’m in a hurry
मुझे पता नहींI am not knowingI don’t know
मुझे समझ नहीं आयाI didn’t understoodI didn’t understand
मैं उससे सहमत हूँI am agree with himI agree with him
मैं घर पर हूँI am in homeI’m at home
मैं दो साल से यहाँ हूँI am here from two yearsI’ve been here for two years
मुझे उससे बात करनी हैI have to talk to himI have to talk to him
मुझे एक सवाल हैI have a doubtI have a question

80. एक ही बात कहने के कई natural तरीके

Spoken English में एक sentence याद करके रुकना नहीं चाहिए। एक ही idea के अलग expressions सीखें।

“मुझे नहीं पता।”

I don’t know.

I have no idea.

I’m not sure.

I’m not sure about that.

“रुको।”

Wait.

Wait a moment.

Just a second.

Give me a moment.

Hold on.

“मुझे समझ नहीं आया।”

I didn’t understand.

I’m not sure I understand.

Could you explain that again?

Could you say that again?

“कोई बात नहीं।”

It’s okay.

No problem.

That’s okay.

Don’t worry about it.

No worries.

“मुझे देर हो रही है।”

I’m getting late.

Indian English में यह बहुत common है।

Wider natural English में:

I’m running late.

या:

I’m late.

Example:

Sorry, I’m running late. I’ll be there in 10 minutes.

81. “I am getting late” बनाम “I am running late”

“I’m getting late” India में बहुत common है।

International conversational English में:

I’m running late.

बहुत natural है।

Example:

Sorry, I’m running late. I’ll call you when I arrive.

82. Polite English के लिए छोटे बदलाव

Direct:

Give me your phone.

Polite:

Could I have your phone number, please?

Direct:

Send me the file.

Polite:

Could you send me the file, please?

Direct:

Explain this.

Polite:

Could you explain this to me, please?

Direct:

Wait.

Polite:

Could you wait for a moment, please?

English में politeness के लिए sentence बहुत complicated बनाने की जरूरत नहीं है।

83. Casual, polite और formal English

Casual

Can you help me?

Polite

Could you help me, please?

More formal

Would you mind helping me?

तीनों का basic purpose same है, लेकिन social situation अलग हो सकती है।

एक और example

Casual:

Send me the details.

Polite:

Please send me the details.

Formal:

Could you please send me the details at your convenience?

Beginner learners को सबसे पहले polite everyday form master करना चाहिए।

84. Pronunciation mistakes भी Indian English को प्रभावित करती हैं

Grammar सही होने के बावजूद pronunciation unclear हो सकती है।

कुछ important areas:

“V” और “W”

Very और wary जैसे sounds को clearly distinguish करना useful है।

“TH”

Think और this में “th” sound अलग है।

Think में /θ/ sound।

This में /ð/ sound।

Tongue को हल्के से teeth के बीच रखकर sound बनाने की practice करें।

“R”

Indian English में strong rolled या tapped “r” सुनाई दे सकता है। Standard English pronunciation में कई accents में English “r” अलग तरीके से produce होता है।

Word endings

“worked”, “asked”, “wanted” के endings पर ध्यान दें।

Examples:

worked
asked
wanted

हर “-ed” को एक ही तरह pronounce नहीं किया जाता।

85. English pronunciation में spelling पर पूरी तरह depend न करें

कुछ words की spelling देखकर pronunciation guess करना मुश्किल हो सकता है:

  • comfortable
  • vegetable
  • Wednesday
  • receipt
  • doubt
  • honest

इसलिए नए vocabulary word को केवल लिखकर न सीखें।

तीन चीजें साथ सीखें:

Word → Meaning → Sound

86. Speaking में word-by-word बोलने की आदत कम करें

Natural English केवल individual words बोलने का नाम नहीं है।

उदाहरण:

I / want / to / go / home.

की जगह connected speech में words naturally flow करते हैं।

Practice:

I want to go home.

पहले धीरे बोलें, फिर normal conversational speed पर बोलें।

Sentence को छोटे chunks में practice करें:

I want to…
go home.

फिर पूरा sentence बोलें।

87. Sentence patterns जो बार-बार काम आएँगे

I’m + adjective

I’m tired.

I’m ready.

I’m busy.

I’m confused.

I have + noun

I have a question.

I have a problem.

I have an idea.

I have some work.

I need + noun/to + verb

I need some help.

I need to leave.

I need to call him.

I want to + V1

I want to learn English.

I want to improve my pronunciation.

I want to speak confidently.

Could you + V1?

Could you help me?

Could you explain this?

Could you repeat that?

Would you like + noun/to + V1?

Would you like some tea?

Would you like to join us?

I’m going to + V1

I’m going to call him.

I’m going to study tonight.

I’ve been + V-ing

I’ve been waiting for an hour.

I’ve been learning English for two years.

इन patterns को याद करने से आप केवल sentences memorize नहीं करते, बल्कि hundreds of new sentences बना सकते हैं।

88. Daily correction drill

हर दिन अपने बोले हुए 5 sentences लिखें।

उदाहरण:

आपने कहा:

“I am having a car.”

फिर correction करें:

“I have a car.”

फिर pattern निकालें:

I have + possession.

अब नए sentences बनाएं:

I have a bike.

I have two brothers.

I have a question.

I have some work.

यही process speaking improvement के लिए बहुत effective है।

B: Yes, I did.

A: Are you busy?

B: Not really. What happened?

“Go ahead” का meaning

बोलिए / पूछिए / आगे बढ़िए।

यह everyday spoken English का बहुत useful expression है।

97. 7-Day Common English Mistakes Challenge

Day 1: Grammar

आज केवल ये patterns बोलें:

I don’t…

He doesn’t…

I didn’t…

Did you…?

Day 2: Articles

a, an, the वाले 20 sentences बनाएं।

Day 3: Prepositions

in, on, at, for, since का practice करें।

Day 4: Verb patterns

make, do, take, have के साथ 5-5 collocations बोलें।

Day 5: Polite English

Could you…?

Would you…?

Could I…?

का practice करें।

Day 6: Real conversation

Friend या family member के साथ 5-minute English conversation करें।

Day 7: Self-correction

अपनी common mistakes की list बनाएं और हर mistake के लिए 5 correct sentences बोलें।

इस challenge का उद्देश्य perfect English बोलना नहीं है। उद्देश्य है कि आप अपनी repeated mistakes को पहचानना शुरू करें।

98. Common Mistakes को permanently कैसे कम करें?

सिर्फ “wrong → right” list याद करने से improvement limited रह सकती है।

इस 4-step method का use करें:

Step 1: Mistake पहचानें

“I am having a car.”

Step 2: Correct sentence बोलें

“I have a car.”

Step 3: Rule समझें

Possession के लिए simple “have” use किया जा सकता है।

Step 4: Pattern expand करें

I have a car.

I have a bike.

I have a question.

I have an idea.

I have some work.

अब आपका brain सिर्फ एक sentence नहीं, पूरा sentence pattern सीख रहा है।

99. सबसे जरूरी बात: हर Indian English usage को mistake न समझें

English एक global language है और इसके अलग-अलग varieties हैं।

कुछ expressions India में established हैं और Indian listeners उन्हें आसानी से समझते हैं। लेकिन जब आपका goal international communication, interviews, formal writing या natural conversational English हो, तो widely used standard patterns सीखना helpful है।

इसलिए approach यह नहीं होना चाहिए:

“Indian English = wrong English.”

Better approach:

“कौन-सा expression किस audience और situation में सबसे clear और natural है?”

यही approach आपको confident communicator बनाने में ज्यादा मदद करेगी।

FAQs: Common Indian English Mistakes

क्या Indian English और wrong English एक ही चीज़ हैं?

नहीं। Indian English की अपनी established variety है। कुछ expressions Indian context में common और understandable हैं। लेकिन international या widely understood English के लिए standard/common expressions सीखना useful है।

“Myself Rahul” क्यों गलत माना जाता है?

English में “myself” normally introduction में subject के रूप में use नहीं होता। “I’m Rahul” या “My name is Rahul” कहें।

क्या “I am having” हमेशा गलत है?

नहीं। “I’m having lunch” और “I’m having a meeting” बिल्कुल natural हैं। समस्या तब होती है जब possession या certain states के लिए इसे unnecessarily use किया जाता है, जैसे “I am having a car.”

क्या “I have a doubt” गलत है?

Indian educational context में यह widely understood है। अगर आपका मतलब simply “मेरे पास एक सवाल है” है, तो “I have a question” broader conversational English में ज्यादा natural है।

“Revert” क्या गलत word है?

“Revert” एक valid English word है, लेकिन इसका traditional meaning “return to a previous state” होता है। Indian business communication में “revert” का use “reply” के अर्थ में common है। Clear international communication में “reply” या “get back to me” ज्यादा immediately understandable हो सकता है।

“Prepone” गलत है?

“Prepone” Indian English में established usage है। India में यह widely understood है। International audience के लिए “move the meeting to an earlier time” जैसे alternatives useful हो सकते हैं।

“Discuss about” में mistake क्या है?

“Discuss” के बाद direct object आ सकता है। इसलिए “discuss the problem” कहें। “Talk about the problem” में “about” सही है क्योंकि “talk” का pattern अलग है।

“Did” के बाद verb की कौन-सी form आती है?

“Did” के बाद base form यानी V1 आती है।

Did you go?

Did she call?

I didn’t understand.

“Did you went?” और “I didn’t understood” incorrect patterns हैं।

“Since” और “for” को कैसे याद रखें?

“for” duration के लिए:

for two years
for three days

“since” starting point के लिए:

since 2024
since Monday

Spoken English improve करने के लिए क्या सिर्फ grammar सीखना काफी है?

नहीं। Grammar के साथ sentence patterns, vocabulary, pronunciation, listening और real speaking practice जरूरी हैं। खासकर अपनी repeated mistakes को identify करके correct sentences aloud बोलना बहुत useful practice है।

Final Learning Tip
