The Honest Axeman
ईमानदार लकड़हारा की कहानी

Once upon a time, there was a poor but honest axeman who lived near a dense forest. Every day, he would go into the forest to cut wood and sell it in the market to earn his living.

एक समय की बात है, एक ईमानदार लकड़हारा था जो घने जंगल के पास रहता था। वह रोज जंगल में जाकर लकड़ी काटता और उसे बेचकर अपना गुज़ारा करता।

One day, while cutting a tree near a river, his axe accidentally slipped from his hand and fell into the deep water. The poor axeman became sad and sat down crying, as it was the only axe he owned.

एक दिन, जब वह नदी के पास पेड़ काट रहा था, तो उसका कुल्हाड़ी हाथ से फिसलकर नदी में गिर गया। लकड़हारा बहुत दुखी हो गया क्योंकि उसके पास सिर्फ वही एक कुल्हाड़ी थी।

Suddenly, the river god appeared and asked, “Why are you crying, my son?” The axeman told him the truth.

तभी नदी का देवता प्रकट हुआ और उसने पूछा, “बेटा, तुम क्यों रो रहे हो?” लकड़हारे ने सच्चाई बता दी।

The god dived into the river and came out with a golden axe. “Is this your axe?” he asked.
“No,” replied the axeman.
Then he brought out a silver axe. “Is this your axe?”
“No,” replied the axeman again.
Finally, the god brought out the iron axe that the man had lost. “Is this your axe?”
“Yes, that is mine!” said the axeman happily.

देवता ने नदी में गोता लगाया और एक सोने की कुल्हाड़ी लेकर आए। पूछा, “क्या यह तुम्हारी है?”
“नहीं,” लकड़हारे ने कहा।
फिर देवता चांदी की कुल्हाड़ी लाए। “क्या यह तुम्हारी है?”
“नहीं,” उसने फिर कहा।
अंत में, देवता ने लोहे की कुल्हाड़ी निकाली।
“हां, यही मेरी कुल्हाड़ी है!” लकड़हारा खुशी से बोला।

The god was pleased with his honesty and gave him all three axes — gold, silver, and iron.

देवता उसकी ईमानदारी से खुश हुए और उसे तीनों कुल्हाड़ियाँ — सोने, चांदी, और लोहे की — दे दीं।

Moral / नैतिक शिक्षा:
Honesty is always rewarded.
ईमानदारी का फल हमेशा अच्छा होता है।
